A First World War 'Tourism Fair' will take place in Gorizia, northern Italy, where tourism sites and locations associated with the conflict will be able to promote their plans to mark the Centenary.

The event will take place on the 23rd-25th May 2014.

Gorizia - on the border between Italy and Slovenia - played an important role in the First World War and is the main reason it has been selected to host the fair.

The location is also described by the organisers as "symbolic", as the territory "bridges diverse political, cultural and linguistic contexts - the so-called Old and New Europea - which have recently started to develop new forms of collaboration".

The World War I Tourism Fair will bring together professionals from the regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto, Trentino and Lombardy, as well as Slovenia, Croatia and Austria, who are involved with historic sites related to the conflict and are planning to mark the Centenary.

Representatives from countries such as Britain, France and Germany will also be present.
